BAAC Integrity Alliance Lagos Chapter Launched
The BAAC integrity Alliance is an Initiative that would bring together like-minded individuals in the private sector who are passionate about driving efficiency in the Nigerian ports. The membership consist of players in the industry. The inauguration of the BAAC Integrity alliance members in Lagos took place at the Sheraton Hotel Ikeja on Tuesday 21 September, 2021. A total 97 people were in attendance while 4 people were elected into the steeling committee.
The Alliance will create a better opportunity for engagement with relevant port and regulator authorities and establishing a compliance process. In his welcome remarks, Mr. Emmanuel bosah, Program Director Integrity Organization stated in his address that the integrity alliance was launched to support reforms by building a proactive voice to improve The Technical session that followed dealt with issues relating to challenges stakeholders faced in the transportation of goods from ports to the warehouse. Mr. Aminu Umar, chairman maritime group of the LCC. Martin Benderson Associate Director, collective Action and partnership development at MACN expressly spoke on the influence of the user-experience Diary in the Nigeria maritime industry as well as Mr Fadipe of the Nsc, Mr Demola Bakare of the ICPC And Mr Solomon Zaks of the Federal Ministry of Transportation (FMOT) all made valuable contributions to the issue.
The Election of the steering committee members followed thereafter with nomination and voting for the position the chairman, Vice –Chairman and Treasurer. For each position, members nominated a minimum of three persons after which they voted by show of hands for each candidate they wanted and head count was taken. The candidate with the highest number of raised hand was declared winner.
At the end of the exercise, Alhaji Aminu Umar, Chairman Maritime Section of the LCCI and Sea Transport Ltd was elected as Chairman Lagos BAAC Integrity Alliance while Rev. Jonathan Nicole, President Shippers Association of Lagos (SALS) and Mr. Francis Omotosho, Registrar, National Association of Government Approved Fright Forwarders (NAGGAF) Academy were elected as Vice Chairman and Treasurer respectively.
The first keynote address by Mr. Mosses Fadipe, Director at the Nigeria Shippers Council (NSC) spoke extensively on some of the reforms that are currently operational at the various ports in Nigeria such as the port service support (PSSP), the standard operating procedures (SOPS), Nigerian port process manual (NPPM) and the advanced cargo tracking system. He further stated that collaboration was very key in the fight against corruption, seen that the NSC cannot do it alone and requires the collaboration of all stakeholders.
The second key note address by Mr. Jimoh Oladapo Sulahiman, assistant commissioner ICPC who represented the Chairman of the ICPC, stated that the Nigeria government risen to mitigate the perceived official inefficiency, mismanagement , lack of integrity and corruption in its port. He further stated that there is need for collective action approach to fight against corruption and promotion of integrity in Nigerians maritime sector.
Leadership, Compliance and Ethics Training for Officers The Nigerian Immigration Services
The Leadership, Compliance and Ethics training was aimed at building the capacity of the next generation of Immigration Officers that have the capacity to understand and implement effective compliance and ethical practices, and demonstrate the level of visionary leadership that enables the Immigration Service to position itself as an institution fit to operate in the 21st century held between 11-13 August 2021 at the NIS National Headquarters, Sauka, Abuja.
Muhammed Babandede MFR, Controller General of Immigration declared the training open. In his welcome address, the CGI highlighted the goal for developing the code of conduct for men and officers of the NIS by his leadership which is to acquaint the personnel with the core value of zero tolerance for corrupt practices and high premium for strong integrity and efficient service delivery.
The three day Leadership, Compliance, and Professional Ethics training approach/ strategies involved the collaboration of The Convention on Business Integrity (CBi) and Minerva Management Limited. The training was conducted through pre and post assessments for each session, use of power-point presentations, plenary sessions for discussions and clarification, videos, case studies discussion, experience sharing of best practices, documentation of training materials in USB and dissemination to participants and presentation of certificates to participants.
