Nigerian Shippers Council Recovers Over N1M From MSC Shipping Line on Behalf of an Importer
Advices All Parties to Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to Ensure Trade Facilitation
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council has recovered the sum of N1,047,300.00 container deposit from MSC Shipping Company for Great Creative Deal Services.
In a letter of complaint titled ‘Refusal to pay container deposit refund on Great Creative Deal Services’, signed by its Manger; Comfort Igori, she alleged that Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) refused to pay them the sum of two million, one hundred and seventy two thousand, eight hundred Naira as their container deposit refund and alleged over rated invoice analysis (demurrage charges) on bill of lading numbers: MEDUVL248741, MEDUVL247990, MEDUVL248030, MEDUVL247958, MEDUVL248048, MEDUVL248022 and MEDULE122253.
In an effort to resolve the allegation amicably, a tripartite meeting was organized where all the parties attended. After careful analysis of the complaint in accordance with Industry standard, the Council resolved that payment of One Million, Forty Seven Thousand Three Hundred Naira (N1,047,300.00) as container deposit be paid to Great Creative Deal Services with immediate effect, and the shipping company avails the Council with proof of payment to the consignee within a week.
The Chairman of the meeting, Mr. M.O. Fadipe urge the parties to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOP) in the Industry in order to ensure Trade Facilitation in the country.
